The heat is on!

Expectations to new science results from the deep Greenland ice core at NEEM are high. The high impact scientific magazine NATURE lists NEEM first in their New Year review of key findings and events that can emerge from the research world in 2011.

Big celebration at NEEM when the drill reached bedrock on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at the deep ice core drilling site on the Greenland Ice Sheet at the depth of 2537,36 m

The drilling of the NEEM 2537 m deep ice core has been very successful and we reached bedrock in July 2010. The ice core contains ice from the interesting Eemian climatic period 130.000 years to 115.000 years before present. Near the base we have big amounts of basal material imbedded in the ice opening very exciting research opportunities  in the interdisciplinary field of relating climate and biological research.

The international NEEM community is excited and ice from the deep ice core is now distributed to the many labs involved in analyzing the ice core.

We will do our best to live up to NATUREs expectations of publishing major results in 2011
