Skrydstrup Airshow 2010

The big Hercules, Skier LC130, that is equipped with skies to land on ice, was a great attraction at the Airshow 2010.

Also this year Centre for Ice and Climate and the US National Air Guard was present with an exhibition at the annual airshow which this year took place at Skrydstrup in the weekend 6th and 7th of June.

A big number of visitors passed the area of the airshow where Centre for Ice and Climate and the US National Air Guard were located. And in spite of the bright sunshine and the high summer temperatures the visitors got a great feeling of the polar conditions under which the exhibited items normally belongs.

All during the weekend the Center for Ice and Climate area had lots of visitors - and quite a few were happy to board the big Hercules, LC130 Skier, which is used to transport crew and equipment in and out of the NEEM camp - the camp where the deep ice core drilling on the greenlandic ice sheet takes place.

A part from many illustrative posters with information on the ice core drilling project NEEM on the Greenlandic ice sheet, the visitors got a good idea about some of the polar equipment that is used on the ice sheet, like a skidoo a Nansen sledge and a tent.

One of the biggest attractions though, was the chance to get on board the big Hercules, C130 skier, from the US National Air Guard that during the field season makes sure that all field participants and equipment is transport in and out of the NEEM camp.
