Danish Climate Researchers take the Lead

Danish climate researchers are among the most productive and quoted in the world – and especially the ice core researchers are in the lead. That is the conclusion made by the Danish Ministry of Science based on a recent survey of the Danish climate research

In a recent press release from the Danish Ministry of Science it appears that Danish climate researchers are among the most productive and quoted in the world – and especially the ice core researchers front the research field.

Although climate research is a small field in Denmark, Denmark is number five in the world when comparing the number of scientific articles published per capita within the climate research field.

The survey reveals a high number of publications and a lot of attention to the output. But it also reveals that the research field is rather small. Only one and a half percent of the annual FTEs of the publicly employed researchers fall within the field of climate research. In the private sector three percent of the investments are directed towards the field of climate.

The information comes from the first collective survey of the Danish climate research field both within the public and the private sector. It is the outcome of the collaboration between the Danish Ministry of Science, the KFT – which is a coordinating unit within research of adaptation to future climate changes – and the Ministry of Climate and Energy.

Based on the survey the Danish minister of science, Helge Sander stressed the great potential for development within Danish climate research.
